BofA credit card breach
  • In November there was a security breach at Bank of America or more specifically with my credit card. BofA revoked my card and issued a new one. Then again just two months later the same issue occurred and I contacted their fraud department to get a bunch of small international transaction fees dropped and although it did happen this process took three phone calls. Dealing with BofA's phone systems is less then desirable. The highlights were being dropped during transfers twice and selecting phone options that were dead ends trying to get to the fraud department.

Overall I estimate that these issues and the lack of efficiency on Bank of America's end cost me at least 5-6 hours. This was due to the multiple phone calls and automating multiple payments.

I have since cancelled my BofA credit card, debit card, mortgage, and Gold checking and savings account. Moving forward I use Fidelity for my primary online bank which reimburses me for ATM fees, allows me to consolidate checking and savings into a single interest barring account, and offers excellent customer service. For a local bank and mortgage I have chosen a credit union which is also a pleasure to deal with.

In my opinion they could use some help on their security team, help and help with their phone systems.
