Temporary Employee Nightmare
  • In April of this year, I accepted a temporary position as a policy writer, to assist Bank of America in a huge project to rewrite 900 policies within a 6 month period. The purpose of the project was to create aggregate policies by order of the federal government. Before accepting the assignment, I sent examples of my writing to the staffing company. My work was forwarded to an executive who works out of the bank's Calabasas office. He called a few days later and after a brief telephone interview, offered me the position. I was excited at working again and looking forward to becoming a contributor in what was a truly challenging project.

Following a training periof of less than 3 1/2 days, I was appointed to the bankruptcy department under Julie St. James. I have absolutely no experience in bankruptcy nor did I ever insinuate that I did. Ms. St. James, contrary to the reviews I read on her LinkIn page is one of the greatest incompetents I have ever had to work with. She is an elitist, possessing a wonderful vocabulary which she uses to as a means by which to address employees in a condescending manner. On my second day under her authority, I discovered she wasn't quite as professional as she would like people to think she is, when I overheard laughingly call another male employee a "whore."

During my less than 4 week stay, she never returned calls, she provided poorly written instructions, refused to respond to inquires or provide training, and seemed strangely annoyed whenever I asked for clarification. Early on, when I asked where certain bankruptcy files were located on SharePoint she replied with a curt, matter-of-fact, "Figure it out" and even suggested I utilize "Google." The proprietary nature of the bank's policies and procedures quickly dispel Google as a tools by which to locate confidential, highly secure bank information.

During my first week at the bank, another contracted employee working out of her home in Colorado laughingly disclosd that Ms. St. James doesn't provide training and her deadlines, often unreasonable. During my last two days at the bank, I had absolutely nothing to work with which seemed unproblematic to Ms. St. James, though the bank paid me for literally doing nothing. This was by far the most ardous experience I have ever endured and though I can't denounce B of A as an employer, Ms. St. James is a person who I would never recommend working for.

I hope that you where able to pass this info along to their Unit manager, I know that this type of behavior is not tolerated and should have been addressed accordingly.
