2 weeks I started the process of opening a checking account with BofA. I have excellent credit. I have been with Wachovia for over 7 years but the switch the Wells really messed up my Bill Pay and I thought I would try BofA.
So I filled out all the forms. I gave BofA my account info for my savings account. They made 2 test transactions, which i confirmed, then BofA took my $500 initial deposit.
Today I received my new debit card and another envelope telling me my account was closed. This letter gave no reason for the closure but said they may report the closure to Chex Systems and Early Warning Services and it may impact my ability to open accounts for 7 years. There was also a phone number to call with questions.
So I called and they said they are not allowed to tell me why it was closed and could not pass me onto anybody else who could. They hung up on me.
Now I am worried there is a black mark on my credit somewhere or that BofA made a mistake but they may mess up my credit. So far no help from BofA. plus they have $500 and could not say when i would get it back.
I should also say I was asking for examples of why my account would be closed. The only example I was given is for negative activity. Of course I asked if there is any negative activity and the answer was no, because there hadn't been any activity.
I just got off the phone with BofA. They won't tell me anything except that regardless of what the letter I received says, they will not ruin my credit for closing my account. From my experience so far I have very little confidence in that. If you apply for life insurance and they turn you down it has a ripple affect, how do i know this will not as well. The only official document I have says they may notify other organizations
The person I talked to says an analyst decided to close my account and they cannot say why. All I did was try to sign up to use BofA services. I gave them all my financial inofrmation, access to my savings account, and my money. All BofA did was take my money and threaten to ruin my credit.
LULZ.......charged off accounts at other banks, lots of returned checks,u overdraft ur account all the time,u placed one too many claims in the first few months...or plain and simple u cant manage your own money..LULZ
More than likely you've left a trail of bad accounts at one bank or another, that you have not resolved and you have been reported to ChexSystems and EarlyWarning by other banks (and now again by BofA! LOL) and no matter where you go you will have the same situation. You already know the answer.
When I was on the phones years ago and I got these calls from people who had no idea why their newly opened account was closed, I would transfer them to RISK CLOSURE and actually have them on mute while they were on hold with that department, and I would actually hear them tell their boyfriend or girlfriend that XXXX bank must have reported me, or "it's probably because of XXXX bank" and of course once the BofA Risk Officer came online they (the customer) were indignant and offended and once again had no clue. Nice part is if you work in that area (Risk) you deal with riff raff and bad apples and you DO get to hang up on them as soon as they mouth off--but not before. And they do mouth off. It's never their fault--always the banks' Yeah! Right!
Bossman sure is presumptuous. The original poster stated that he had decent credit but Bossman gleefully exclaims "More than likely you've left a trail of bad accounts at one bank or another, that you have not resolved and you have been reported to ChexSystems and EarlyWarning by other banks (and now again by BofA! LOL) and no matter where you go you will have the same situation." Incidentally, why is it funny that the poster has a problem?
And what's with the story about dealing with "riff raff" and "bad apples?" It's irrelevant to the current post but it is very telling in regard to how Bossman views others. Maybe he's worked too long at B of A and all the conflict is chipping away at his decency.
I don't make assumptions I relate facts---they always know why their account is closed. They always know they have been reported to ChexSystems. They open accounts online thinking that the banks(s) will not due a ChexSystems check if they do it online! Yeah, right. We'll give the con artists a pass, sure!
The only time I can say someone is caught off guard as to why their account is closed is when they have boyfriend or girlfriend they want on their account and open an account with that person and then the ChexSystems reports comes back on their new love they just hooked up with a week ago and now want on their account, and that new love is "riff raff" and their new account is closed. Then in those cases, yes, the good customer is caught off guard! Oh well better find out now who you're dealing with than later when you're making babies, right?
It costs a bank about $39 a month to maintain an account and about $78 to open one and the bank is not going to just close an account when it costs money to do that too. Not for no reason. But it will not take a risk on those "bad apples" that have left a trail of verifiable bad accounts elsewhere, and there is no reason it should have to. Assumptions, no. Facts yes...
If have done nothing bad with them, I don't see how anything negative could go on your report. If you do have something that was ancient history with them, then yeah they can stop you from having an account with them. Is there anyone else in your household that has a bad financial past?
blah blah blah, you just mad that you have a shitty job, and I'm sitting with a ton of money in my new credit union bank account. You guys lost a lot of money when I left your shitty ass bank.
Now go back to your call center and twiddle your thumbs. You are a loser in life, a follower, someone who wonders what happened.
