Most credit card companies suck pretty bad, but Bank of America is perhaps the worst. Because of a breach in Bank of America’s security, they canceled my existing card and sent a replacement. Did they send it to the correct address? No, they sent it to my old address. It was promptly returned and and the account was flagged. Bank of America is terrible.

None of that matters really because I am not in the United States. When I called to find out what was going on Bank of America told me that one department has one address (the old one) and another department has a different address (the new one). I asked them to send it to me in Borneo, but they refused since, as the person told me, “That is not a real place.” Really? I think North Carolina isn’t a real place either, but the idiots that work there at Bank of America think it’s real enough.

Okay, so Borneo isn’t real, then send it to the Philippines. Nope, can’t do that. The Philippines is not a safe place to send it because they can’t ensure the card will actually be delivered. What?!?!

Fine, send it to Thailand. Sure, only Bank of America couldn’t manage to get the address into the system without actually changing my address to my friend’s address in Bangkok. How messed up is that? What is it about addresses and Bank of America? To make it even better, it will take well over a week for them to send it. What if I were in an emergency and needed the card now, I asked? “Well, we might help me in that situation, but probably not.” Nice.

Will I actually get the card? Doubtful. They seemed to have a hard time sending it and then call disconnected before they could confirm (I am using VoIP in a place with unreliable internet). Did they call back? Of course not, and I couldn’t get through again.

How long has this little fiasco been going on? Almost two months now. WTF?!

Bank of America clearly does not care about its customers. Interestingly, when I had an issue with Capital One, they sent a card via FedEx overnight and I got it right away… half way around the world. Bank of America said they just couldn’t get it to me that fast. Will I stay a customer? No. Bank of America is terrible and clearly cares very little for a customer that has been with them for a very long time and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on that card over the years. Bank of America is perhaps the worst bank in the US.
