Terminated with benefits through 12/31/11 and retroactively cancelled coverage to 11/17/11
  • I was terminated as part of a RIF on 9/21/11.  I received a notice from Bank of America Benefits stated that my medical/dental/vision coverage was good through 12/31/11.  On 12/27/11 I called Bank of America Benefits to ask about cobra paperwork since my insurance was to be cancelled as of 1/1/12.  Was told the "system" does show that my insurance is active but that it shouldn't be.  I should've received cobra paperwork within two weeks of being terminated and that I have already missed my cobra window.  Long story short, I received in the mail a letter in January 2012 stating that my insurance was terminated as of 11/17/11.  I am now getting calls from doctors from appointments made at end of December 2011 that my insurance was terminated.  I plan to call advice and counsel.  Anyone else experience this?

  • If you still have that notice, you're good. That is definitely something I would guard with your life.
